Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta

Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta is a renowned Endocrinologist and Diabetologist with over 24 years of experience, currently serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology at Nilratan Sircar Medical College (NRSMC), Kolkata. He is also a Consultant Endocrinologist at Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra and GD Diabetes Institute, where he provides expert care in managing a wide range of endocrine and metabolic disorders.

Dr. Sengupta completed his schooling at South Point School, Kolkata, once the largest school in the world in terms of student enrollment. He then pursued his medical education at Medical College, Calcutta, the oldest medical school in India, where he earned his MD in Internal Medicine from the University College of Medicine, Kolkata. He was posted at National Medical College for his MD training. Further specializing in Endocrinology, he completed his DM in Endocrinology and Metabolism from IPGME&R and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, in 2000, where he was awarded a Gold Medal for his outstanding academic performance.

Dr. Sengupta's expertise covers a wide range of endocrine disorders, with a special focus on diabetes management, including diabetes during pregnancy, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetic nephropathy, as well as complications like high blood pressure, heart disorders associated with diabetes, and diabetic foot problems. He is highly skilled in treating conditions like increased thirst, blurred vision, numbness or tingling in extremities, slow-healing sores, unplanned weight loss, frequent urination, and other symptoms commonly associated with endocrine disorders. Dr. Sengupta is deeply involved in academic and professional activities. He has previously served as the Assistant Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at Nilratan Sircar Medical College and has been associated with Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan and Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences. Currently, he is also the Secretary of the Board of Studies in Endocrinology at WBUHS and Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. Sengupta is actively engaged with various professional bodies related to endocrinology and diabetology. He served as the Honorary General Secretary of the Diabetic Association of India, West Bengal, from 2009 to 2013 and is currently the Vice President of the organization. Additionally, he holds the position of Assistant General Secretary of the Endocrine Society of Bengal and is a governing council member of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), West Bengal Chapter. As a passionate educator, Dr. Sengupta is dedicated to teaching and training young doctors, and he takes great pride in sharing his vast knowledge and experience. He has contributed to the medical literature with approximately 100 articles published in national and international journals, making significant advancements in the field of endocrinology.
