I thought an artificial pancreas would handle my meals too

The name "artificial pancreas" made me assume the system would basically take over most of the work of managing insulin.

Then I started reading about hybrid closed-loop systems and saw people still talking about entering carbohydrates and giving meal boluses. That confused me a bit. If the pump and CGM are already communicating and adjusting insulin automatically, why does the system still need information about meals?

For people using one of these systems, how much carb counting do you still do? Has the technology made meals easier even if it has not completely removed that part?

I definitely still count carbs. The system handles a lot in the background, but I still tell it about meals. It reduced some of the mental load for me, just not all of it.

The name is a little misleading if you hear it without any explanation. I pictured something completely automatic too.
