I did not realize there were three different ways to use CGM

Until recently I thought CGM just meant wearing a sensor and seeing glucose on your phone all day. Now I keep coming across terms like real-time CGM, scan-based monitoring, and professional CGM.

Are these basically different versions of the same idea, or is the experience actually quite different? I am especially confused about professional CGM because it sounds like something you may wear temporarily through a clinic rather than buy for yourself.

Would be interested to hear how people chose between these options and what each one is actually useful for.

Real-time CGM is what I use. My readings come through automatically, so I can look at the current number and trend without remembering to scan the sensor.
