I did not realize insulin type mattered when discussing a switch

I have been reading about changes from traditional insulin schedules to newer options and keep seeing people mention different types of insulin.

Someone using twice-daily insulin might be taking premixed insulin, NPH, or another type of basal insulin, and I am trying to understand why that distinction matters.

Does the exact insulin type change how doctors think about switching or adjusting treatment? For people who have discussed changes with their doctor, what information about their current insulin routine was important?
