Checking whether my glucose meter is actually giving reliable readings

I have been using a glucose meter at home and started wondering how I can confirm that it is working properly.

I know there are control solutions available, and I have also heard people mention comparing a meter reading with a laboratory result. I am not sure how these checks are done or what kind of difference is considered normal.

For people who have tested their meters, what method did you use? Did you use control solution at home, compare it during a lab visit, or both?

I used control solution when I first bought my meter because I wanted to know if the device and strips were working together correctly. It was a simple check once I understood the instructions.

Same here. I was worried the meter was inaccurate, but the control solution test helped me separate a device issue from a normal variation.
