When Should Short Acting Insulin be Given ?

  • Short acting insulin should ideally be given at least 30 minutes before the meals.
  • Rapid acting insulin analogues are given 10-15 minutes before meals.
  • Ultra-short acting (or Utra-Rapid insulin) can be given 5 minutes before meals or even after the meal has been taken.
