The insulin pump can be used both by patients with type 1 diabetes as well as those with type 2 diabetes. It can also be used in those women who have diabetes with pregnancy.

At the present moment, with the use of some newer medicines for type 2 diabetes, the use of the pump in type 2 diabetes is generally not necessary.

But the pump is very useful for patients with type 1 diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy.

who should use insulin pump and its disadvantages

Any patient with type 1 diabetes or diabetes in pregnancy can use a pump. It is ideal for those people having frequent meals and those with very labile sugars.

However, one must remember that the use of the pump does not make everything automatic, and you still need to get the basics right. That means checking of sugar frequently, watching out for low or high sugars, following lifestyle measures all need to be done.

In fact, the pump is ideal for a patient who does all of these. In our experience, we have found that those not doing the basics right often end up having problems with the use of the pump.

This is the major disadvantage of the use of the pump.
