Diabetes Causes
What are the causes of diabetes? It depends on what type of diabetes you are inquiring about. There are two classifications of diabetes:
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Diabetes Insipidus
Diabetes mellitus is caused when the insulin in the body is either not being produced or is being produced but is unable to be used by the cells in the body. One is known as "insulin dependent" and the other is known as "insulin resistant". Within the class of diabetes mellitus are several types of diabetes but overall diabetes mellitus is the most common form of diabetes.
The second classification is diabetes insipidus. This has to do with the amount of fluid or water which is retained in the system and overall is very rare. Under this classification are also several types of diabetes insipidus.
This section "Diabetes Causes" will go into details on each type and what scientists and researchers believe are the causes.
But for an overview of the subject of diabetes, what is causing the epidemic of diabetes that is becoming a problem throughout the globe? This is the question which many scientists are working on every day and the real question we should be considering.
Up to 171 million people around the globe have diabetes with this figure likely to more than double by 2030.
Close to 3.2 million deaths occurring each year are believed to be attributed to problems of diabetes, 6 deaths every minute.
The 10 top countries in numbers of people suffering from diabetes are India, USA, China, Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Russia, Italy and Bangladesh.
Many scientists believe that the overall cause of the rise in diabetes is basically a change in urban cultures around the world. As we produce more computers, TVs, video games and other ways to curb the amount of exercise and as more fast food chains are moving into every corner of the world, our cultures worldwide are becoming more sedentary. Medical professionals and scientists around the world believe that this is setting up the epidemic of diabetes since the two major causes of diabetes seem to be diet and exercise.
Many also believe that our worldwide economic crisis is having an impact on diabetes not only in treatment but also in cause. But then again, it could be just a matter of genetics as some ethic groups seems more prone to developing diabetes than others.
This section on "Diabetes Causes" will examine each type of diabetes to show that perhaps the sedate life styles are indeed the overall reasons for this disease.
